Professional Clinical Psychology Therapy in South Manchester and Online: Specialising in Trauma, Life-Changing Health Conditions, and Relationship Challenges
About Me
Are you feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or burdened by life’s challenges?
Perhaps you’re facing a long-term or life-changing physical health condition, dealing with trauma from a past event, or finding it hard to break free from patterns that hold you back. Whatever brought you here, taking the first step towards therapy is a courageous and empowering choice. I’m here to provide a safe and compassionate space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences at your own pace. Together, we can work towards clarity, healing, and personal growth.
My name is Dr. Hoyin Chan, and I bring over 20 years of experience in mental health services within the NHS, where I’ve supported individuals with a wide range of psychological difficulties. My career began in social work, offering frontline mental health support to people in complex and vulnerable situations. This experience inspired my passion for working therapeutically with clients, particularly those navigating chronic or life-altering health conditions.
Currently, I am a Principal Clinical Psychologist, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). My approach integrates several evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including:
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT)
These therapy models allow me to provide you tailored treatment plans to address your unique needs—whether you’re dealing with unmanageable stress, unresolved trauma, anxiety, depression, or difficulties in relationships. My focus is on helping you understand your experiences, develop resilience, and rediscover a sense of purpose and self-worth.
My Areas of Expertise
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working in diverse clinical settings, including burns and plastics, respiratory, cancer, and HIV services. I am particularly experienced in supporting individuals facing:
Psychological trauma
Life-changing physical health conditions
Trauma related to medical treatments or surgeries
Relationship challenges
Low self-worth
How I Work
I primarily offer online therapy, supervision, and consultation, with limited face-to-face sessions available in South Manchester. My services are tailored for adults and older adults, and I am fluent in both English and Cantonese.
It’s important to note that my practice focuses on guided self-discovery and therapeutic growth. While I am deeply committed to supporting my clients, I am not equipped to provide crisis intervention. If you are currently experiencing a mental health crisis, I encourage you to reach out to dedicated crisis services or emergency support for immediate help
